Who we are

All the schemes are totally self-funded and therefore rely on fund-raising and donations from local community, businesses and organisations, to help purchase equipment and keep the schemes operational. They also rely on the volunteers who give up their time to be Responders.

SAFeR Responders all live or work in the Steyning, Bramber or Upper Beeding area. We currently have eight Responders and others in training. The area which the scheme covers is based on that covered by the Steyning Health Centre.

All our Responders have been checked by the Criminal Records Bureau. They carry vital medical equipment like defibrillators and oxymeters, but no drugs.

Responders are from a cross-section of the community – including policemen, firemen, housewives, electricians and other occupations.

Christine Peters is a nutritionist and natural therapist and lives locally. She has been involved with SAFeR from the start: “It’s good to be able to put something back into the community. I’ve been trained by the professionals to deal with emergency situations and I’ve been called out to all sorts of different cases. It’s so good to know that I can help, whether it’s an elderly person who’s had a fall and been cut or bruised, someone who’s had an accident, perhaps on a sports pitch or in the home, or if it’s a more serious life or death case.”
